Argyle homes and lots
In the U.S. Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey estimates, Argyle has 1,784 housing units, with a margin of error of 239. Of those, 296 (16.6%) were built in 2020 or later and 354 (19.8%) between 2010 and 2019, beside 316 from 2000–2009, 204 from the 1990s, 362 from the 1980s and 252 from before 1980; the median home dates from 2002, give or take seven years. Detached single-family houses account for 1,743 of the units, or 97.7%, and owners live in 1,554 of the 1,684 occupied homes. The median value of an owner-occupied home is $695,300, and the median household income is $181,352. The 2020 Census counted 4,403 residents; the Bureau's estimate for July 1, 2025 is 6,372.
Wooded lots of an acre or two
The Town describes wooded lots and gently rolling hills, housing that ranges from modest frame homes on small lots to custom homes on several acres, and one of the largest concentrations of equestrian farms in the United States. Typical lots run 1 to 2 acres, with many tracts of 5 to 10 acres or more, while most newer subdivisions build custom homes on smaller lots. Waterbrook, entered from Highway 377 just south of FM 407 past a lake with a waterfall and water wheel, is described on a realtor's page as Argyle's first planned mixed-use development.

(469) 526-3886Deck rules in the 2021 pool code
Argyle has adopted the 2021 International codes with local amendments, the 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, the 2021 International Residential Code and the 2020 National Electrical Code among them. The figures below are the model 2021 code's own; ask Community Development whether any local amendment changes them.
Fall and drainage
For travertine or brick-set pavers beside a home pool, that edition's minimum fall is 1/8 inch per foot, rising to 3/8 inch at a public pool, unless some other drainage method keeps water from collecting. No deck other than a wood deck may slope more than 1/2 inch per foot, ramps aside, and twenty minutes after water stops landing on it, any standing water should be no deeper than 1/8 inch.
Joints, gaps and edges
Where the coping meets a concrete deck, the code wants a watertight isolation joint that shields the coping, and the mortar under it, from the movement expected of the deck. Joints inside a deck should keep visible cracks within the control joints, a deck that meets existing concrete needs a joint so their relative movement can't damage the pool, and deck edges are radiused or tapered with no sharp corners. Between a pool deck and an adjoining deck or walkway, the open gap, joint material included, stays at 3/4 inch or less, and the step in height at an adjoining sidewalk at 1/4 inch or less.
Slip resistance
Decks, ramps, coping and similar step surfaces must be slip resistant and cleanable under the same code, inlaid markers included. The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute counts high slip resistance, together with rapid drainage, among the reasons concrete pavers suit the ground around pools.

(469) 526-3886Permits, fees and outdoor lighting
The Town wants permits in place before anything new is built and before an existing building or structure is added to, altered or repaired, with applications made through its online portal, and every contractor working inside town limits registers each year, at $125 the first time and $50 to renew. Its residential fees include $625.00 for an in-ground swimming pool permit, $150.00 for an above-ground pool or spa, $0.86 a square foot for residential building permits covering new construction, remodels, additions and accessory buildings, and $200.00 for a grading, drainage or erosion-control permit; every residential permit is subject to the grading and drainage requirements. No Town page read says which permit a new pool deck needs, so put that question to Community Development before any digging.
Argyle's dark-sky standards
Argyle has outdoor lighting standards meant to protect the night sky: shield fixtures to cut glare, use warm-colored 2200K light, avoid over-lighting, put lights on timers and motion sensors, and keep light on your own property. Development and permit applications go through the Town's outdoor lighting ordinance, a lumen worksheet and a lighting plan checklist, so step, path or deck lights planned with a new deck are worth checking against them early.
Flower Mound Pool Resurfacing will walk through the permit and lighting questions before a deck is drawn up.

(469) 526-3886The ground under a new deck
The USDA soil survey draws 42 map units within Argyle's Census boundary. Callisburg fine sandy loam at 1 to 3 percent slopes covers about 17.5% of the mapped land and reaches 4.5 percent linear extensibility, which the 1980 survey of Denton County ranks moderate; Gasil fine sandy loam covers about 16.8% and 8.4% at two slope ranges and stays low, at 1.8; and the Birome-Rayex-Aubrey complex, on about 7.3%, is moderate at 4.5. The 1980 survey cautions that moderate to very high shrink-swell can damage buildings, roads and other structures, and that special design is often needed.
For pavers, the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute builds on compacted soil with a compacted aggregate or stabilized base, and typically pours a concrete base at least 4 inches thick around pools where the backfill or the aggregate base can't be compacted well. The Natural Stone Institute warns that poor drainage, movement or a weak substrate can cause trouble even for a durable stone. Water in town comes from Argyle Water Supply, which the Town notes is not associated with it.
Pilot Knob, the railroad and an 1895 fire
Fourteen families settled the area under the Peters Colony between 1850 and 1867, when it was known as Pilot Knob or Waintown, and ran cattle on the open range, according to the Handbook of Texas. The Texas and Pacific laid its track through in 1881, and Argyle was founded on November 7 that year, named by a railroad surveyor after a garden in France. An 1895 fire that started in a dry goods store burned the whole business section, which was rebuilt by the early twentieth century.
The Handbook says residents voted to incorporate on September 19, 1960, did so in 1962 and elected M. H. Wilson the first mayor; the Town's own history gives 1963. City residents looking for a country setting drove growth over the next two decades, to 1,575 people in 1990 and 2,365 in 2000. Unity Park, at 135 Crawford Road, has a three-field baseball complex, soccer fields, a covered pavilion and a 1.25-mile jogging path beside a creek, and Argyle has been named a Tree City USA six years in a row. Bartonville lies to the southeast, the subject of our page on pool water features in Bartonville.
A deck with coping, steps or a new finish
A new deck meets the coping at the pool's edge, and typical Texas figures for 2026 add $30 to $60 a linear foot for matching travertine coping. Flower Mound Pool Resurfacing also handles pool coping repair and replacement, stamped concrete pool decks, pool deck resurfacing, tanning ledge and step additions, and pool replastering. East of town is Lantana, whose amenity pools are the subject of our page on HOA pool resurfacing in Lantana.
Building a travertine or paver deck
Ask the Town first
Community Development says which permit the deck needs, and every residential permit in Argyle carries the grading and drainage requirements.
Plan the fall and the drains
The 2021 code’s fall for pavers at a home pool is 1/8 inch per foot; the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute slopes surface and base toward drains with openings at the bedding-sand level, covered with geotextile so sand stays put.
Build the base
Soil and aggregate are compacted, and a concrete base of at least 4 inches goes in where the backfill can’t be compacted well.
Lay, cut and restrain
Pavers or stone go down on a nominal 1-inch bedding sand layer, held by edge restraints, and finish 1/8 to 1/4 inch above the edges to allow for minor settling. On a travertine order of several pallets, the Natural Stone Institute says to mix pieces from all of them.
Seal the coping joint
A urethane or neoprene sealant over backer rod goes between the last course and the coping, so the pool wall and the paving can move apart without letting water in.
Light it to the Town’s standard
Any deck or step lights are shielded, warm-colored and kept on the property, to Argyle’s dark-sky standards.

(469) 526-3886Questions about travertine pool decks
How much does a travertine pool deck cost?
Installed, a travertine pool deck runs $12 to $25 a square foot in typical Texas figures for 2026, with $3 to $7 of that for materials and $7 to $18 for labor, which puts a 300-square-foot deck at $3,600 to $7,500 and a 1,000-square-foot deck at $12,000 to $25,000; site preparation can add $2 to $8 a square foot. For premium decking of travertine, pavers or natural stone in new Dallas–Fort Worth pool builds, 2026 figures run $15,000 to $40,000 or more. Those are published averages, not our prices, and Flower Mound Pool Resurfacing prices a deck only once it has been measured.
Is travertine a good choice for a pool deck?
It can be, if its nature is understood. The Natural Stone Institute names travertine among the natural stones suited to paving and notes that stone surfaces can be finished for slip resistance. Travertine is calcium carbonate, though, so lemon, vinegar and other acids can dull or etch it, and no natural stone varies more from piece to piece, even out of a single quarry, so ask to see a range of samples before ordering.
