The resurfacing process, from the first call to the 28-day start-up

  1. A free estimate

We look at the pool’s size, the finish on it now and what you would like changed, then talk through the options and what they cost.

  2. Town and HOA checks

The Town’s Building Inspections is asked whether the job needs a permit before any work starts, and the HOA’s rules are checked on their own, since the Town doesn’t regulate them.

  3. Preparing the shell

Hollow or loose plaster is sounded out and removed, and the shell is either bond-coated or stripped, as the finish maker’s instructions call for.

  4. One application, then the fill

The National Plasterers Council says a pool finish goes on in one single application. The pool is then filled so the cement cures underwater, which the Council calls ponding.

  5. The 28-day start-up

About 85% of the cement has hydrated by day 28, the Council says, so the water is tested, balanced and the pool brushed through that first month.
